Foundation Sponsors Brain Series on PBS

The American Brain Foundation has become an underwriting partner of the PBS Foundation in support of the PBS six-part television series “The Brain with Dr. David Eagleman.” The first episode of the series premiered on October 14.

Eagleman is a neuroscientist, Guggenheim Fellow, and New York Times best-selling author. In the series, he employs an array of visual effects to take viewers on a journey inside the brain to demonstrate its complexities and how it works to give definition to who we are.

“By aligning with this show, the American Brain Foundation will be able to connect with and educate more than 2.7 million households about the human brain while raising awareness of the Foundation and the valuable work we do,” said Jane Ransom, executive director of the Foundation.

“David Eagleman is a simply an amazing individual, and I think it is fantastic for the Foundation to help sponsor the upcoming PBS series,” said former Board Member J. Clay Goodman MD, FAAN. “This is a superb way to substantially raise the profile of the Foundation.”

On his website, Eagleman states, “The series will reveal the human story by blending scientific truth with innovative visual effects and compelling personal stories. ‘The Brain’ focuses on understanding the fundamental truths of what it means to be human now and in the coming centuries, while communicating these elegant and simple ideas as they apply to us and our experiences. I will take viewers on a fascinating journey through our inner cosmos, exploring the brain’s neural landscape while asking questions like ‘What is reality?’ and ‘Who is in control?’ I will also look at the darker side of humanity in order to understand why the brain drives us towards certain actions and behaviors.”

Two years in the making, the series is complemented by the book The Brain: The Story of You, published in October.

Check the PBS website for your local television listing for air dates of the remaining episodes or repeat airings of “The Brain.”
